What would you do if on the night in question, weather is cold with october air and the person you are with is sick with cough and colds? First thing on my mind was to eat bulalo, with real hot soup and soft beef and tasty marrows.. That was what we exactly did.
Batangus, a relatively newly-opened restau along Metropolitan Ave corner Pasong Tamo, Makati, boasts of its heavenly bulalo completely comparable with the best you can find in Tagaytay and Batangas.
Excuse the crappy photo. But I really wanna share with you some shots of the place. I fell in love with the place the moment I saw it. I am a big fan of restaurants who boast not only of good food but provide equally good ambiance too. And Batangus is a winner for me on both accounts. It’s just a small, almost hole-in-the-wall kind of food joint. From the door to the interior, the restaurant’s theme is modernized western cowboy. The entrance is a big wooden double door with handles fashioned after a bull’s horn (sorry I wasn’t able to take a photo). Upon entrance, you will see rows of booths on one side and open tables on another. Most structure are made of soft wood. Walls are lighted with old-fashion gaseras, with one wall taking the theme a notch higher with faux brick and cowboy hats. Nothing overdone.
And as a bonus, they provide “live” concerts for diners! Charice, Josh Groban, Shakira, Mariah, Eagles – they have all those and more for you.
I love sitting in booths as they provide pseudo-privacy. Upon seating, waitress clad in brown polo shirt and tight denim shorts will give you their menu.
Without looking at menu, I go for Special Bulalo. Their bulalo serving consists of a big bowl of beef and lettuce with three cups of rice and unlimited soup. Serving takes about quarter of an hour but I assure you, the wait is all worth it *big smile
The only comment we have on the food: the soup easily turns cold. But nonetheless, everything is excellent. Oh, and I also wish they’d expand on their desserts. At the moment, they only have two desserts on the menu, ice cream (grocery-bought) and chocolate cake. I guess a leche flan, graham mango float, fruit salad, even some banana fritters, wouldn’t hurt *wishfulthinking
Food is very affordable. Meal is around 200 to 250 per person. They are open Mondays to Fridays at 11am to 11pm and Saturdays from 11am to 10pm.
Happy tummy once more *bigbigbigsmile*
